Wanda Mound (Polish: Kopiec Wandy) is a tumulus located in Mogiła (since 1949 a neighbourhood of district Nowa Huta) in Kraków, Poland. The mound is assumed to be the resting place of the legendary princess Wanda. According to one version of the story, she committed suicide by drowning in the Vistula river to avoid unwanted marriage. The mound is located close to the spot on the river bank where her body was found. Archaeological studies, conducted on site in 1913 and in mid-1960, did not provide any conclusive evidence of the mound's age and purpose.
The mound base, some 50 metres (164 ft) in diameter, is at 238 metres (781 ft) AMSL and its height is 14 metres (46 ft). Unlike the other three mounds in Kraków, this one is not located on a natural hill.
The first written record of the mound comes from the 13th century. Within a mile of the mound-site in 1225 a monastery was built by the bishop of Kraków, Iwo Odrowąż, called the Mogiła Abbey, which is still active today. In 1860 it became a part of Austro-Hungarian fortifications, pulled down only in 1968-1970. In 1890 a monument designed by Jan Matejko was erected at the top: an eagle on a plinth decorated with a relief of a sword and a distaff, and the inscription 'Wanda'.

The Krakus Mound (Kopiec Krakusa) in Kraków, viewed from the old abandoned 'Liban' quarry. The oldest structure in Kraków, the Krakus Mound is one of two prehistoric monumental mounds in the city and is also its highest point, providing incredible panoramic views from its worn summit. Sixteen metres high, sixty metres wide at the base and eight metres wide at the top, the Krakus Mound stands in scruffy contrast to the manicured modern mounds elsewhere in the city, with a muddy path winding around to a bald peak. The age and the original purpose of the mound remain a mystery. Excavations conducted between 1934-1937 revealed that the mound consists of a solid wooden core covered with soil and turf. Some artifacts (like a bronze Avar clasp) dating from between the 7th and 10th centuries were found inside, but no human remains were discovered. However, excavations were not completely comprehensive. The Krakus Mound is astronomically aligned with the other mysterious, man-made hill about 6 miles apart, the Wanda Mound, located in today's Nowa Huta district of Kraków. Looking from the Krakus Mound on the eve of the Celtic celebration of the sun (May 1), the sun rises exactly over the Wanda Mound; conversely, standing on Wanda's Mound at dusk, the sun sets in a straight line behind the Krakus Mound. On the Celtic New Year (November 1), the Sikornik Mountain overlooks the sunrise above the Krakus Mound. Historians and scholars have given differing interpretations of the intriguing grassy humps, ranging from burial sites to fortifications to pagan temples. According to the Medieval chronicler Ioannes Longinus, the mounds were erected to commemorate the legendary first ruler of Kraków - Prince Krak, from whom the city derives its name - and his daughter Wanda, who (another legend says) chose to jump into the Vistula River rather than marry a foreigner. The most popular theory says that the mound was created by a Slavonic colony sometime between the latter half of the 7th century and the early 10th century, yet according to another hypothesis the mound is of Celtic origin and dates from the 2nd-1st century BCE.
