Octal system
The octal numeral system, or oct for short, is the base-8 number system, and uses the digits 0 to 7. Octal numerals can be made from binary numerals by grouping consecutive binary digits into groups of three (starting from the right). For example, the binary representation for decimal 74 is 1001010, which can be grouped into (00)1 001 010 – so the octal representation is 112.
In the decimal system each decimal place is a power of ten. For example:
\mathbf{74}_{10} = \mathbf{7} \times 10^1 + \mathbf{4} \times  10^0
In the octal system each place is a power of eight. For example:
\mathbf{112}_8 = \mathbf{1} \times  8^2 + \mathbf{1} \times  8^1 + \mathbf{2} \times  8^0
By performing the calculation above in the familiar decimal system we see why 112 in octal is equal to 64+8+2 = 74 in decimal.

The device integrates eight channels of low-noise amplifier, variable-gain amplifier, anti-aliasing filter, and 14-bit A/D converter with the industry’s highest sample rate (125 MSPS) and best SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) performance (75 dB) for enhanced ultrasound image quality. The on-chip RF decimator enables the ADC to be oversampled providing increased SNR for improved image quality while maintaining lower data I/O rates. The 5-Gbps JESD204B serial interface reduces ultrasound system I/O data routing compared to other data interface standards by as much as 80%. These features simplify ultrasound board design, while better addressing industry demand for higher data rates, larger channel counts and greater image resolution. A second model, the AD9674, offers the same basic functionality but is available with standard LVDS interface. The AD9675 and AD9674 are available in a space-saving 144-ball, 10 mm x 10 mm BGA package and are pin compatible with the AD9670/AD9671, providing easy migration for those designs that require a reduced cost and limited digital functionality.
