Observations and explorations of Venus
Observations of the planet Venus include those in antiquity, telescopic observations, and from visiting spacecraft. Spacecraft have performed various flybys, orbits, and landings on Venus, including balloon probes which floated in the atmosphere of Venus. Study of the planet is aided by its relatively close proximity to the Earth, compared to other planets, but the surface of Venus is obscured by an atmosphere opaque to visible light.

Applied Sciences and Technologies: Observations and explorations of Venus
Venus was the first target of interplanetary flyby and lander missions and, despite one of the most hostile surface environments in the solar system, has had more landers sent to it (nearly all from the Soviet Union) than any other planet in the solar system. The first successful Venus flyby was the American Mariner 2 spacecraft, which flew past Venus in 1962.

Letts Astronomize: Astronomy Observation Log 3.3 (Astronomy Cast - Exploration of Venus)
Apparently, the planet Venus has also been the subject of a number of in-depth explorations, even if these efforts haven't been as publicized as those of Mars. The science fiction interpretation of the past was interesting and almost funny- the speakers recount a story, perhaps by Asimov, that was adapted into a movie in which people lived on the warm wet world that was Venus, which would only be clear of rain every 20 years.

Venus transit movie created from 5000 images, 6 hours of observation
(Phys.org)—New movies of the transit of Venus on 6 June 2012, viewed from two different locations on Earth, clearly show the parallax effects that have made Venus transits so important historically. The results were presented at the European Planetary Science Congress in Madrid, Spain.

Venus Exploration Analysis Group
The Venus Exploration Analysis Group (VEXAG) was established by NASA in July 2005 to identify scientific priorities and strategy for exploration of Venus. VEXAG is currently composed of a chair and five focus groups. The focus groups will actively solicit input from the scientific community. VEXAG will report its findings and provides input to NASA, but will not make recommendations.

Mars Exploration Rovers Update: Opportunity Celebrates Milestones, Arrives at Solander Suburb | The Planetary Society
The Mars Exploration Rovers (MER) mission Opportunity celebrated the 10th anniversary of its launch on July 7, 2003, and then went on to complete the last leg of its 2 km trek from Cape York to Solander Point. But just before the robot field geologist pulled onto the actual base of the ridge where it will spend its sixth Martian winter, Mars lured the team off the path with some of the weirdest Martian rocks the scientists have seen yet.
